New Devices

Do you have a new smart TV, AppleTV, Google Home, or other streaming device that you are planning to bring to campus? Save time, and have it working by the time you arrive on campus! If you have brought this device to campus previously, you will not need to re-register your device.

Send us your MAC addresses ahead of time! Email the Technology Helpline with your MAC address, your device type, along with your username.

Due to the large variety of smart TVs, if you are unable to find the MAC address, please email us for assistance. The MAC address is usually located in the Network Settings or System Settings menus. It may be labeled WiFi address or RJ45 address. Please indicate if it says RJ45 or wired MAC address when contacting us.

iOS 14 Updates

If you have upgraded your iPhone or iPad to iOS 14 recently on your previously Gustavus-registered device, Apple has included a network change that will affect your campus wifi connectivity (private MAC addresses). This will also affect any devices not yet registered at Gustavus as well.

Gustavus uses a MAC address-based network registration system, and the private MAC address feature randomizes your MAC address. This feature will require you to register your iPhone or iPad frequently. To avoid this, please turn off private MAC addresses for the Gustavus and GustavusSecure networks according to the instructions included in the link below.

Android 11 Updates

If you have upgraded your Android device recently,  Android 11 has brought random MAC addresses to all Android devices.

As mentioned above with the iOS 14 updates, this feature will require you to register your device frequently, and will provide inconsistent wifi. To avoid this, please turn off random MAC addresses for the Gustavus and GustavusSecure networks according to the instructions included in the link below.

Did you get a new phone during the summer?

When you get to campus, you will need to register your phone. Connect to Gustavus WiFi, open a browser, and go through the registration process. Restart your device to complete the process.

New Residence Hall? Install the Residence Hall Printer!

Installing the Residence Hall printer must be done while on campus due to network security restrictions.

Would you like to use a wired network connection?

We will have ethernet cables available for free located in the Olin lobby during move-in weekend. If you do not have an ethernet port, please fill out a network diagnostic survey to help us diagnose your network connection to help improve your signal – https://gustavus.edu/go/networkdiagnostic

Outdoor Wireless Coverage Improved

We have improved our wireless network coverage in outdoor spaces. Please see our blog post for a coverage map: https://gts.blog.gustavus.edu/2020/09/10/outdoor-wifi-upgrades-expand-campus-coverage/
