Technology Services Monthly

Helpline Hours for Summer and Fall 2019

Technology Services will be open from 8 a.m. to 4:45 p.m, Monday through Friday during the Summer break.

Helpline hours are changing for Fall 2019. We will be available to assist you 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. on Friday, and we will be closed Saturday and Sunday.

Informer Access from Off-Campus

Starting June 5, 2019, Informer 4 will no longer be directly available from off-campus. Employees will be able to access Informer 4 normally from campus computers, but off-campus availability will require connecting through remote desktop. Instructions for setting up and using remote desktop can be found in the GTS wiki.

Keep Devices Updated and Summer Support

Devices in need of updates are fertile ground for would-be attackers. The recent Intel Zombieload vulnerability is one example of how pervasive an exploit can be (affecting almost every Intel-powered device since 2011), and why it is important to keep your devices updated.

If you encounter issues during your Summer break, we want you to know that we are still here to help.

We have a few modes of support (other than calling, emailing, or stopping by Olin) during the summer (also available during the academic year) that we encourage you to use. This is especially helpful if you spend your summer away from campus.

Live Support, is a web-based chat system that can be found on the GTS homepage. This is great for asking questions if you are spending your time in a different country. All questions received via the web-based chat are handled by full-time staff members. This tool requires a network connection.

GTS SOS, is a remote assistance tool that, when granted permission, will let you connect with a full-time GTS staff member and share your screen. Also, with additional permission, it will give them remote control access to your computer. This tool is extremely useful for more in-depth and complex problems. Once you exit the remote access session, all permissions and remote access are immediately terminated. This tool requires a network connection.

Commencement and Beyond

Congratulations seniors on your upcoming graduation! It has been a pleasure providing you with technology services and support over the years. To assist with your transition, we have compiled some information related to your technology at Gustavus. We wish you all the best!

Position Updates

After gathering feedback from various campus constituencies and the Technology Services team, Provost Kelly announced that Interim Chief Technology Officer Tami Aune will continue in that role on a permanent basis.
