Cybersecurity Awareness Month: Passwords Posted on October 13th, 2020 by

October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month and Technology Services will be sharing some important safety tips to help keep you safe online.  The first in our series involves passwords.  Below are some key points to remember about passwords.

  • Use Two-factor or Multi-factor authentication.  This prevents 99.9% of attacks on your account.
  • Do not share your passwords with others.
  • Do not write your passwords on paper or other insecure formats.
  • Use passphrases.  These are long, random, but memorable passwords.
  • Use a unique passphrase on every site.
  • Use a trusted password manager such as LastPass to help you with the former.
