Real first names will always appear along with an optional nickname
We have some very creative minds on campus, but this creativity has recently caused some confusion for faculty and staff when using the people search (online Gribly). A search for students would often result in a haphazard mix of real first names, genuine nicknames (e.g. Bill for William, Jenny for Jennifer), and a sprinkling of more fanciful offerings. Starting today, people search results and profiles will always show real first names, along with a preferred nickname (if available). We hope this change helps alleviate the problem without sacrificing flexibility and creativity.
This change has been amended and now only pertains to student preferred names.
