7 Random, Useful, and Free iPhone Apps Posted on March 5th, 2013 by

1. RunKeeper

RunKeeper is similar to Nike+, designed for keeping track of workout distances. However, while previously offered as ‘pro’ and ‘free’ versions, the developer now includes all the features in one free app. This allows users to utilize the iPhone’s GPS capabilities to track jogging and cycling routes, and examine mapping and details of your pace. Activities can be shared online, and treadmill runs and other exercise details can be entered manually.

2. DropBox

Plenty of apps exist for transferring content between your computer and your device, but Dropbox is free and user-friendly. Dump files you want to sync in a folder on your computer and Dropbox for your device will enable you to access them, download them for offline viewing, and, in many cases, view them.

3. Wikipanion

The Wikipedia website works fine on iPhones, but a dedicated app is an ever better bet. Wikipanion gives you quick access to article sections, in-article search, viewing options, bookmarking, and the ability to tweet about whatever odd fact you’ve just unearthed. Also, there are no ads.

4. Shazam

Shazam is an app that feels like magic when you first use it. If you are ever listening to a song on the radio, and are curious as to what it’s called or who it’s by, this app is for you. It’s extremely simple – hold your iPhone near the source of the music, and wait while the app listens and tells you what song is playing. While Shazam doesn’t always guess right, it’s definitely worth a download.

5. Find My iPhone

Find My iPhone is a must-have app. Assuming you have a 2010 or later iOS device, you can set up a free account and locate your device within seconds. This app, although titled Find My iPhone, can also be utilized with other iOS devices, such as an iPad or iPod.
