Profile Photos in Search Results

Wading through search results can be tough when everything looks the same. It takes time to read through the results to find what you are looking for. Zeroing in on search results about a person at Gustavus just got a bit easier–we’ve added profile photos to our search results.

Wading through search results can be tough when everything looks the same. It takes time to read through the results to find what you are looking for. Zeroing in on search results about a person at Gustavus just got a bit easier–we’ve added profile photos to our search results.

We use Google for our search engine and Google indexes special information embedded in our profiles pages using PageMaps. This allows us to tell Google where a profile photo is located. We can then use that information when displaying search results to show profile photos (or other information we choose).

Profile photos will slowly be trickling in to search results as Google indexes our pages, so if your photo isn’t showing up yet, please be patient. Faculty, staff, and administrators: now is a great time to update your profile.
