Hi everybody!
In preparation for this upcoming fall move-in for both First Year students and returning students, we would like you to come to campus with an UPDATED computer! This will save you a lot of time when you hook up your computer to the Gustavus network this Fall.
If you are bringing an Apple computer to campus, please run Software Update. This will ensure you will have the latest software and security updates.
If you are bringing a Windows computer to campus, please make sure you have SP3 (service pack 3) if you have Windows XP, and SP2 if you have Windows Vista. If you have Windows 7, you should be okay in regards to service packs. How do I tell? If you were able to get past this step, last spring or last fall, you should get past this step this year.
However if you have updates to install on your computer, (you will know by the little yellow shield, in the right hand corner) please be sure to run them before coming to campus. Or when shutting down, choose the option to Install updates and shut down.
If you are coming to campus with a Windows-based computer, please be prepared to uninstall your current anti-virus program when you come to campus, and then install the Symantec Endpoint Protection. If you are a returning student, you will need to download and install the newest version of Symantec. You can download that from http://greg.gac.edu when you get to campus. If you have pre-purchased an anti virus subscription from a store, find out if you can be refunded. Our Symantec Endpoint Protection is free for students, and the subscription lasts as long as you are a Gustavus student. We require that you have our Symantec installed in order to register (PCs only).
Please call the Technology Helpline (507-933-6111) if you have questions about anti-virus software or anything else during network registration.
