For anyone who didn’t notice, Gustavus and parts of St. Peter had some major power issues on Sunday afternoon. Initially Olin hall was running on generator power but when the generators cooling hose broke and the fire department arrived, Olin was without power for a while. The brown out situation also caused damage to some electrical equipment around campus including the air conditioner for the server room.
The last I heard (8:00pm) , the air conditioner in the server room was still broken and we are therefore keeping many servers off until it gets fixed. For example GusTV, moodle, imagenow, and quite a few other non critical services are not running yet.
UPDATE: Early Monday afternoon the air conditioner in the server room was fixed and we started up the rest of the servers. I heard that the air in the admin building was not working yet. I also heard that the cause of the problem was due to a loss of power coming into the city from the East. Although with other power lines coming into town and the backup generators, I don’t know why it caused as much problems as it did.
