Senior Class Gift Website Posted on April 23rd, 2007 by

We’ve been working with the senior class gift committee and have put the 2007 Senior Class Gift website live. You will be able to find all of the information you ever wanted to know about the senior class gift.

We tried to make it feel friendly and inviting, so hopefully it comes across that way. It has all the bells and whistles—committee member intros with cool speech bubbles, a progress graph, cool randomized catchphrases, and even a few pull-quotes. Let us know what you think.

  1. […] First, we moved the labels for the form elements from the side to be directly above the form fields because people can understand them up to ten times faster than our previous configuration. Second, we added language explaining what we find helpful in error reports. We hope this will encourage people to tell us as much about the situation they have encountered as possible. And, finally, we put some form description text in a friendly and attractive little blue bubble to the side, in a similar way to what we have done in other areas recently, such as the Submit Your News form and the Senior Class Gift website. In response to ‘Anonymous’, after much discussion about where this money should go, we decided that students who are thinking about attending Gustavus are more likely to be “motivated” by a larger scholarship than Bethel or Luther or Concordia, etc. Though some people might be interested in a wind turbine, it may not be able to sway their decision to come here. The campus community relies on large incoming classes, this is where our thoughts for the future need to be centered. Also, there will surely be a plaque. Thanks for your concern.

Thanks again for the comment. I have forwarded it to the senior class gift committee. Just the thought of a wind turbine gets me excited, so I can definitely see where you are coming from.

I’ve talked to a few members of the class and most of us would be much more willing to donate if the money were going to something specific. Money going into a general alumni fund is not as motivating as to say help build the windmills. I think that there would be much more interest if the money were going to something that could have a plaque that says donated by the class of 2007.

Thanks for stopping by and leaving an anonymous comment. I will forward your concern on to the committee.

I don’t think there’s any way to make it inviting to be bombarded by requests for money I don’t have.
