Graphs Graphs, and More Graphs Posted on November 6th, 2003 by

I found some great free software to help the IT staff monitor various switches and machines on our network. The software I set up is called cacti. It is similar to the good old MRTG but has a great web interface for creating lots and lots of graphs.

If you would like to take a peek, you can go here: http://stats.it.gac.edu/cacti/ and log in as guest/guest. That will allow you to look at all the graphs.

After the default install I noticed that it was taking close to 4 minutes to just get data from a handfull of sources. So I discovered the C version of the snmp program that gets all the data and now we can get data from dozens of sources in less than one minute.

Please let me know if there is a system or network you would like monitored but it is not listed yet.
