Upcoming changes to Google and Yahoo email services that are intended to limit SPAM and malicious phishing attempts, will also necessitate improved security and better email list practices. Of particular note, email senders must adhere to the following:
- Authenticate emails using security protocols like DKIM, SPF, and DMARC.
- Implement one-click list-unsubscribe for bulk messages, and honor unsubscribes within two days.
- Maintain a spam complaint rate under 0.3% (no more than three spam reports for every 1,000 messages) for the Gustavus domain.
Email senders that do not comply by February 1, may not be able to reach their intended recipients. In an effort to mitigate this risk to the delivery of critical College communications, Technology Services will be implementing changes to numerous systems. Individuals in specific areas have already been notified of this work, but if you have questions or concerns about how these changes may impact you, please feel free to contact the Technology Services Helpline (helpline@gustavus.edu or 507-933-6111).
In the meantime, you can help the College to maintain its good email standing by ensuring that your email lists are updated regularly with active accounts that have not unsubscribed from a previous email.
