Congratulations Perry! Looks like you just got a nick name.
Like many of us here at GAC I too have gotten caught up in the corpse flower craze. Today I took a few photos of the recently named Perry. A couple of my favorites are posted here including the photo that makes me think the aphid is trying to impersonate a mountain climber.
As you may already know, we are capturing images of Perry at one minute intervals from each of our three webcams and saving those images for future use. I have also been using those images to create time lapse video. However I am certain someone out there can make better use of these images so I am trying to make them more accessable. As a result I have started copying all of the images taken so far to my computer. As long as my computer can handle it and demand is not so great as to cause bandwidth issues, I will try to keep them available there.
There are many other fun uses of these images besides time lapse. Each image is named based on the time the image was taken so if you know approximately when you were in the greenhouse, there is a good chance you can find a photo or two of you and Perry. Another possibility is that you could use the images to calculate very accurately just how fast the flower was growing at any point in time. Using the time stamps in the images and comparing the height of the plant, it should be fairly easy to chart its growth which tends to vary quite a bit.
If you do come up with some interesting use of these images or create your own time lapse video, please let us know. The more that people can benefit from these images the better.
