Former Web Team Member Paints Mural in Old Main

Lili Payne, a former member of the Web Team, was on campus last week donating her time to painting a fine art mural of the Parthenon for the Classics department. The mural has a strong presence, covering an entire wall in the Classics office on the first floor of Old Main.

Lili was a solid designer when she worked with us. She played an instrumental role in designing many of our higher-profile areas, including the Pandora Project—a photo repository for the Classics department. Although she no longer works at Gustavus, her style continues to influence many of the things that we make.

Upon graduating from Gustavus, she began painting for Dayton’s shows and displays. Dayton’s then became Marshall Field’s, which became Macy’s… where she currently works. Lili has also painted a number of commissioned works, including some in Italy and the ceiling of a chapel.

When I mentioned the nice size of the mural, she said, “Nothing really seems that big after painting that ceiling.”

The finished mural demonstrates her talent and the skills that she has cultivated as a professional painter. We are proud to have had her on our team and are glad to see that she is still making her mark around campus.

And Lili—if you’re itching to paint another mural, we’ve got a few offices around here that could use a fresh coat.
